About Bonyi Bunya Network
Bonyi Bunya Network Inc. brings people together to share knowledge, strengthen connections and care for Bunya Country.
Our story began with concern
Across Bunya Country in South East Queensland, people were observing the decline and death of Bunya (Araucaria bidwillii) and other native species.
Questions about forest health, soil-borne pathogens such as Phytophthora, and how we could better protect these culturally and ecologically significant landscapes sparked conversations between Traditional Custodians, scientists, land managers, conservation practitioners, government, educators and community.
Those conversations grew into Beyond Bunya Dieback.
Beyond Bunya Dieback
Over three years, Karen and Spencer Shaw of Brush Turkey Enterprises hosted symposiums, workshops, training, community gatherings and art exhibitions.
These activities created spaces for people to share what they knew, ask questions, learn from one another and explore new ways of responding to the challenges facing our forests.
The program demonstrated that no single person, organisation or field of knowledge holds all the answers. Caring for Country requires collaboration.
From these relationships, Bonyi Bunya Network Inc. was formed.
The Network today
Today, we are a community-led, not-for-profit organisation committed to bringing together First Nations knowledge, science, education, practical land management and community experience.

Our connections extend beyond Bunya Country.
Through relationships with people caring for kauri and forests in Aotearoa New Zealand, and with conservation practitioners elsewhere in Australia, we are creating opportunities to exchange knowledge and learn from shared challenges.
